I know you would rather spend your weekends relaxing by the pool instead of doing the pool man’s job. Being in the swimming pool service business and also being a pool owner, I would like to share a few things to keep in mind when hiring a pool service.
Customer Service
Did they answer the phone, and did they show up on time? It seems obvious, but the service you receive will never be better than your first meeting. Pool service companies are on their best behavior when they are trying to earn your business. You should hold to a very high standard in this first service call. If they did not answer the phone or promptly return your call now, just imagine how hard it will be to get them to come out when it might not be convenient for them. Any pool service will remember the big things that make them money. But how many will remember the little things that make you happy. Customer service must be their first priority. If it’s not, keep looking.
Do they look professional
I’m not talking about cheap magnetic signs on the door of their truck, for $40 I could be an “expert” at anything. I’m talking about your first impression of their company. A professional pool service will have estimate forms and business cards that look professional. When they answer the phone did they say “hello”, or was it something more professional like, “thank you for calling, Gilbert Poolman, how may I help you?”. Do they answer all of your questions? Or do they seem to be new at this? You want to hire a swimming pool professional. This will ensure you are getting the best pool service, and the best, most current information about swimming pool water sanitization, and equipment selection. Your family’s health depends on it.
How much does a pool service charge?
Professional pool services charge an average of $120 per month, but there are several factors that will determine your actual costs but there are variables that can change the price:
Size of pool: A very large pool will likely drive up the cost of pool maintenance. A larger pool will require more chemicals to maintain pH and chlorine levels and it will take longer to vacuum the floor and scrub the walls and steps than a smaller pool.
Usage: If you use your pool for an after-work swim and the occasional weekend dip your pool will require less maintenance than a pool that plays host to the neighborhood kids every day.
